The Chopping Block is the creation of chef proprietor Michael Hjort, the founder and owner of Melton’s, one of York’s leading fine dinning restaurants. The A la Carte menu is about carefully prepared food with real flavour and authenticity using Yorkshire produce and Michael’s favourite recipes.

This independent restaurant covers two floors of a 17th century listed building above Walmgate Ale House, with two dining rooms and the Loft space which is great for large parties. The Restaurant Week Menu is a selection of popular dishes from the regular menu.
